Night Fision Tritium Sights: A Clearer Picture

We designed the OA 2311™ around reliable, repeatable performance and as such when you draw your pistol the sights need to be clear under all conditions – including the dark. Personal preference aside, two common sight types are cost effective but come with drawbacks – photoluminescent sights require light to charge and lose that charge over time while fiber optic sights require the presence of ambient light to enhance visibility. With that in mind, a tritium front sight makes the most sense.

Night Fision’s Perfect Dot™ Tritium Night Sights are proudly made in the USA – just like the OA 2311 – and their sister company, Cammenga, has been the official manufacturer of the U.S. Military’s battlefield proven Tritium Lensatic Compass for over 30 years!

Every OA 2311 comes with a standard height Perfect Dot™ Tritium front sight installed. We preach the benefits of red dot optics, but recognize that batteries don’t last forever. All of our optic slides are equipped with rear sight blades to work in tandem with the front Night Fision sight and optic for a 1/3 co-witness view. For those running a DeltaPoint Pro optic, with every pistol we include an additional suppressor height front sight to be paired with our DPP plate. These two components work in tandem around the DPP’s taller height to maintain 1/3 co-witness.

Tritium is a radioactive isotype of Hydrogen and gives off energy as it slowly breaks down during its 12.32 year half life. It’s produced naturally in the atmosphere when cosmic rays collide with air molecules. It’s also a byproduct of the production of electricity by nuclear power plants. Tritium in its gaseous form is able to diffuse through most materials except Borosilicate glass. When Tritium gas is encapsulated in glass vials with phosphorescent pigments, a self-luminous (glow in the dark) device is created.  Since tritium is a low energy beta emitter, it is NOT dangerous externally (beta particles are unable to penetrate human skin). Healthwise there are no health risks short of ingesting tritium, and quite frankly we don’t recommend eating sights of ANY kind. The government (United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission) regulates facilities that work with tritium to ensure safety all around.
